This book honors the powerful and varied voices of Southern women. The design challenge was to unify a rich tapestry of stories, histories, and recipes into a single, cohesive package.
Design System
I developed a flexible visual language through multiple rounds of refinement—establishing consistency in color, layout, and photography. A responsive 12-column grid allowed the design to adapt fluidly to different types of content while maintaining a cohesive rhythm throughout.
Research & Asset Management
I sourced historic and supplemental artwork from over 100 external contributors, building a custom workflow to manage permissions, assets, and integration across the book.
Materials & Finish
I selected uncoated paper—a material we hadn’t been able to weave into our program in nearly a decade—which brings a tactile, grounded feel to the book. It ties the project together, emphasizing the authenticity and depth of this collaboration.
