This book was created to reflect the intimate, beautiful bond between a mother (Umma) and daughter, told through the lens of Korean cuisine lovingly prepared each day. Our goal was to honor Korean traditions through thoughtful design, photography, styling, and typography.

Style
We created a design that draws inspiration from the author’s favorite Korean cafés, traditional art, beloved cookbooks, and the serene simplicity of the family’s Orange County home.

Photography
We chose to shoot exclusively with natural light to achieve an honest, unpolished aesthetic—real, modest, and warm. On-location sessions in the family’s California home further grounded the visuals in their lived experience.

Propping
Props were carefully sourced for authenticity, including items ordered from Korea, found in local Korean-American shops, and drawn from the family’s own collection.

Typography
We curated fonts that reflected the author’s cultural perspective while maintaining a modern restraint. Special attention was paid to the relationship between Korean characters and English translations, creating a clear and respectful visual hierarchy across layouts.
